Maybe the most tremendous being on the Scourge, Magnus is a power to be reckoned with. Trained from birth to become a potent warrior, he is now at the peak of his strength. The Magnataur's giant axe can cleave paths through his enemies, and create a bone-breaking shockwave that ripples through the ground. Further strengthened by a demonic magic that enhances his attacks, he can crush enemies with shocking ease. His greatest power, though, is the ability to create an immensely strong magnetic field, sucking in helpless foes to meet their end.

1. Foreword

Hello, I've been playing DotA for a couple of years now. I always lurk around the forums but never posted anything. I noticed that there seems to be a lack of Magnataur guides in the forums, to be precise, zero. So I decided to give writing a guide a shot.

Magnataur is an extremely powerful hero, when played properly he is able to become a devastating force in the battle field.

2. Hero Overview
Base Movement Speed: 315 <- One of the best in the game.
Base STR: 21 + 2.75 / Level
Base AGI: 15 + 1.8 / Level
Base INT: 17 + 1.65
Base HP: 549
Base Mana: 221
Base Armor: 4.1
Attack Range: 100 ( Melee )

3. Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:
- Magnataur is able to farm and harrass fairly well with the help of Shockwave
- Excellent damage as the game progresses due to Enpower

Weaknesses:
- Lack of disable other than his ultimate which is on a fairly long cooldown first 2 levels
- Lack of escape mechanism in order to escape ganks

[ 4. Hero Abilities ]

http://www.dota-allstars.com/images/lists/BTNShockWave.gifShockwave

A wave of force ripples out from the Hero, causing damage to land units in a line.

Level 1 - 75 damage.
Level 2 - 150 damage.
Level 3 - 225 damage.
Level 4 - 300 damage.

Cooldown: 11/10/9/8 seconds.
Mana Cost: 90 at all levels

Shockwave is a blessing for a melee hero. With the recent buff to Shockwave, and its lower mana cost, this skill has become much more viable for usage Since Melee heroes are at a great advantage initially in a lane, Shockwave will allow you to farm / harrass with more ease.

http://www.dota-allstars.com/images/lists/BTNGhoulFrenzy.gifEmpower

Increases attack damage for a friendly unit.

Level 1 - 15% attack damage.
Level 2 - 30% attack damage.
Level 3 - 45% attack damage.
Level 4 - 60% attack damage.

Cooldown: 12 seconds.
Mana Cost: 30 mana at all levels

Ouch. Empower has an incredibly low mana cost and low cool down which will allow you to permanently have Enpower activated on an ally or yourself. With a whopping 60% damage increase, you are able to bring home the bacon for your team.

http://www.dota-allstars.com/images/lists/BTNAbility_Warrior_Cleave.gifMighty Swing

Magnus' halberd swings in a mighty arc, damaging all enemies in a fairly wide circle. Targets beside the primary take less damage.

Level 1 - 12% damage is splashed.
Level 2 - 25% damage is splashed.
Level 3 - 37% damage is splashed.
Level 4 - 50% damage is splashed.

A fairly good skill in itself. But when it is combined with Empower, you are able to pack a punch to nearby enemies.

http://www.dota-allstars.com/images/lists/BTNGolemThunderclap.gifReverse Polarity

Through some unknown property of matter, the Magnataur sucks all nearby enemies to his position and stuns them with a powerful slam, dealing damage.

Level 1 - 2 second stun, deals 150 damage.
Level 2 - 3 second stun, dealing 225 damage.
Level 3 - 4 second stun, dealing 300 damage.

Cooldown: 120/100/80 seconds.
Mana Cost: 200/250/300

Previously, Reverse Polarity's cooldown was 120 at all levels, and the Ultimate cost more mana. Now it is much more viable for usage, as end game progresses, the cooldown allows Reverse Polarity to be up when the major battles occur. When combined with blink and Enpower, and Cleave, Reverse Polarity becomes a force to be feared. This skill will make enemies fear standing together, and will make allies love you.

Part II : The Herder

[ 5. Recommended Skill Order]

After much experimenting with Magnataur, I have found this to be the most viable build for Magnataur in all skill levels of gameplay. Whether it'd be an Inhouse or a Pub, I believe this build will be viable.

Level 1: Shockwave
Level 2: Stats
Level 3: Shockwave
Level 4: Stats
Level 5: Shockwave
Level 6: Reverse Polarity
Level 7: Shockwave
Level 8-10: Empower
Level 11: Reverse Polarity
Level 12: Empower
Level 13-15: Mighty Swing
Level 16: Reverse Polarity
Level 17: Mighty Swing
Level 18-25: Stats

[ 6. Reason for Skill Order ]

Shockwave will allow you to get last hits and harrass enemies. In order to maximize your early-mid game power of shockwave, early Stats will be taken in place of other skills to give you more mana for Shockwave spammage

Mighty Swing will help in DPSing nearly heroes with the combination of Reverse Polarity, and prevent enemies from denying with ease. Yes, you will not be auto attacking, but hitting all nearby creeps and enemies at your proximity will help.

Empower is taken mid game because the 30 mana is quite noticeable since your nuke only costs 90 mana. Also, Enpower is a greater threat as you get more damage items. It is taken after Mighty Swing as well because when neutraling, Mighty Swing is much more efficient, since it costs no mana.

[ 7. Recommended Item Build ]

Full Bottle: 700 gold
Two Bracers: 1200
Kelen's dagger of escape 2150
Battlefury: 4785
Boots of Speed: 500
Total Cost: 9335

Item Order:

Hopefully one of your allies will buy chicken as you are rely on items.
The start up items does not matter to me, generally I go 2x Tangoos and Circlet and Gaunts due to the increased cost of tangoos

Buy Full Bottle
Finish Bracers
Voidstone
Finish Perseverance
Buy Kelen's Dagger of Escape
Finish Battlefury

Full Bottle will allow Magnataur to be able to cast shockwave more freely. Also, if timed properly, you are able to store a Rune in the bottle constantly. Not only that, but every trip to the fountain allows you to refill the bottle as well. Bottle is so good that it was recently nerfed to fill up to 2/3 instead of making it full ohmy.gif

Two bracers will give you enough necessary stat boost early game in order to give you more HP, and enough mana to keep up constant shockwaves.

Kelen's Dagger of Escape is fills the whole of your weaknesses. This will allow you to land perfect Reverse Polarities without having to walk and stomp. Also, this is a great defense mechanism as you are able to blink in and out of combat with ease.

Where's the Radiance?!

Battlefury, oh this item is going to bring controversy. Why take Battlefury than the almighty Radiance?
Normally, I'd was always be against battlefury on ALL heroes, but Battlefury synergizes with Magnataur extremely well. The early perseverance provides enough regen throughout the game in order to farm more efficiently with Shockwave.

When comparing the stats of both items this is what we get:
Radiance: +60 Damage, +8% Evasion, and the ability to damage all nearby opponents [$5325]
Battlefury: +65 Damage, +150% Mana Regeneration, +6 HP sec / Regen, and Cleave Attack for Melee [$4,785]

Radiance gives you no regen benefit necessary in order to farm faster... for itself, but the ability to damage nearby enemies with Reverse Polarity works well. Radiane's main component, sacred relic, costs 3800, and without the proper farming from Shockwave, it may take a while. I'm not saying that Radiance is a bad item, it is recommended to be taken later on.

Battlefury provides early benefits of regen in order to farm Battlefury faster. Not only that but combined with the already massive 50% cleave that Magnataur has passively with his skill, Magnataur will have a total of 85% cleavage. The damage provided from battlefury itself combined with enpower will also allow you to be extremely devastating in the battlefield.

[ 9. Possible Items Afterwards ]

Boots of Travel - This item will allow you to defend, and push at an instant. I find this item crucial on all heroes for all teams. Also, whenever a lane is open for farming, BoT will help you farm it.

Assault Cuirass - Wow, Let's see what you would do. This item covers all your armor issues. After Reverse Polarizing, you will also be reducing the armor of nearby enemies and attack them with tremendous ferocity with your mighty 40% Increased Attack speed, and 15% Aura. On top of providing armor buff for nearby allies, ALL enemies nearby will also receive an armor debuff. This item is flawless for Magnataur.

Radiance - Okay, although Radiance was not included in the core item build, this item is great. Aside from the massive cleave you provide, Radiance will sure pack quite a punch with its immolation.

Heart of Tarresque - The regen is mediocre by late game but this item will give you enough late game survivability necessary, while adding extra damage

Hood of Defiance - If you are having trouble against nukers, it is recommended that you get Hood of Defiance for safety.

[ Part III: Utilizing skills to full potential ]

Shockwave
Since this nuke is very important in order to be Successful with Magnitude I will go into more detail.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/eyang/Shockwave1.jpg
Translation:
The Blue Square represents the area that Shockwave hits. NOTE: Shockwave does not hit behind magnataur.
The Circle represents the maximum distance you may click without moving forward.
The Red Square Represents the area that you may click in order to launch your Shockwave. NOTE: If you click anywhere in the Blue Square, you will be hitting units inside the Red Square.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/eyang/enpower1.jpg
Translation:
Note, when Magnataur Enpowers himself or a target he will go up and then down. You are able to animation cancel this. When Magnataur is at the top is when Enpower is cast. After he reaches the top, you are able to move, or cast without cancelling the Enpowering.

Reverse Polarity

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/eyang/ReversePolarity.jpg
Translation:
In this picture, the centaurs will be caught in Reverse Polarity. The picture represents the maximum range which Reverse Polarity catches nearby enemies. After Reverse Polarity is cast. All nearby enemies are then stunned and transported to the location where the Magnataur is.

The basic Strategy for Magnataur is to first Enpowering yourself first, then blinking where you catch as many enemies as possible with Reverse Polarity. Immediately start hitting select a hero to kill by attacking them. Afterwards kill all of the survivors of this combo with Shockwave.

[ Part IV: Gameplay Walkthrough ]

Level 1-7
Pick a lane, bottom or top and try to get a lane partner of a friendly disabler.
Early game pay attention to enemy creeps and land last hits. Do the "melee dance" as you walk around nearby your allied ranged creeps to be safe from harrassment and attack when creeps are low HP. Constantly hold ALT in order to do the basic last hitting / denying.

The rune spawns every 2 minutes, 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 etc. Keep your eye on the clock on the top right hand corner in order to use the bottle to its full potential. When you see a rune, make sure to store it on your bottle as it will refill your bottle to 2/3

When landing a shockwave, try to hit nearby enemies as well if you are able to. This will allow harrassment while farming simultaneously. When a fleeing enemy hero is at low on hp, run beside him and launch a Shockwave towards his running path.

Also, don't be afraid of using your Ultimate when the enemy makes a mistake nearby your tower, or to save your allies as well.

Level 8-12
By this time you should have picked up your bracers and also on your way towards perseverance. Once you obtain a Void Stone, you will be spam shockwave better. You should be on your way towards battlefury, finishing it if possible. The perseverance will provide enough lane staying power throughout the game

When your lane pushes too far, you are free to go neutral creeps, as they provide good experience and gold. Also, remember when neutraling that Rock Golems are immune to your shockwave, as they are Ancients.

Level 13-16
By this time you should have finished farming your Battlefury, when combined with Enpower, which will soon be maxed by now, you will have +155 damage constantly. Impressive!

Also, hopefully you will will have a Blink Dagger by this point of the game as enemies will fear you when you enter combat. Make sure you blink in the middle of all of your opponents to catch them with Reverse Polarity.

Level 17+
Be sure to always be around when team battles occur, with BoT you will be able to continually be there helping your teammates. Use Shockwave spams to push help push and defend, and enpower heroes that would benefit from enpower greatly, such as Sven.

As the game progresses you become even more intimidating, being able to land Double and Triple kills with ease whenever your ultimate is not on cooldown.

Part V: [Miscellaneous ]

[ 10. Recommended Allies ]

AoE Disables / Nukers

http://www.dota-allstars.com/images/lists/BTNArachnathidGreen.gif
Sand King / Epicenter
Burrowstrike allows you to land more proper Reverse Polarities. Also, after you land a Reverse Polarity and Sand King enters with Epicenter... all heroes in the nearby vacinity should end up dead.

http://www.dotastrategy.com/images/hero/darchrow.gif
Blackhole + Midnight Pulse after a reverse polarity is also a notable AoE combo that would provide to be quiet devastating.

http://www.dotastrategy.com/images/skill/blackhole.gifhttp://www.dotastrategy.com/images/skill/overgrowth.gifhttp://www.dotastrategy.com/images/skill/sonicwave.gif
AoE combinations allow a more proper landing of Reverse Polarity or devastating damage after landing of Reverse Polarity

[ 11. Worst Enemies ]

http://www.dotastrategy.com/images/hero/medusa.gif
Medusa
Her mana shield allows her to take quite a punch even with your damage. But most notably, her purge removes your Enpower Buff. When used properly she may purge your Enpower prior to your Blink / Reverse Polarity.

http://www.dotastrategy.com/images/hero/nephritos.gif
Nerubian Assassin
This guy will make your farming a living hell. You will not be able to Shockwave spam with this guy around you. If he is on your lane, ask for a lane change, otherwise farming for the core build will be excrutiating.
