I know it's early, but I wanted to be the one who will start this topic.
Reason for opening this thread is to boost my post count =]
I will make a poll here. You can vote for team for which you think will be a winner of European championship.
There are max 13 poll options and there are 16 teams, so three teams wont be in the poll :/
I suggest some kind of reward for those who will vote for the winner of EURO 2008. coz there are few teams with equal chances and equally good players.
I will make this poll to be closed a day or two before championsip will start, coz my grandmother could predict the winner after half games played.
After you will vote for ''your'' team, plz state few facts which makes you think that your team will be EURO 2008. Winner !!

I voted for France. There are few reasons.
I've been watching their football since 1998, when they won World Championship.
I find their football rather atractive, smart, offensive. Their football is the model of gameplay I tried to play for a long time (succesfuly).
I think that they have really talented players like Thierry Henry, Benzema, Trezeguet, Coupet, Samir Nasri (for who ppl are saying he is new Zidane), and others.
They have really good goalkeepers; Gregory Coupet and Sebastien Frey.
Impressive defense; Abidal, Evra, Gallas, Sagnol and Thuram, they are not receiving much goals :)
Imba mid line with Vieira, Nasri, Ribery...
Attack...just when Henry is there gg no re :)
They are winners of World Cup 1998, Euro Cup 2000, Confederations Cup 2001. and 2003.
They were Euro Cup winners 1984. when Platini was playing but it's not so important now.
I watched highlights of Euro 1984. few days ago. Platini was Godlike.. :D
So what I wanted to say...in last 10 years they have 4 trophies from and Finals vs Italy 2006.
Impressive, they proved they are ready and capable for great things :)

We Romanians didn't do much stuff, but we got a way better team and i hope for the most.
Although in the same group with Italy and France...i kinda doubt we have chances...hope dies the last.

i have always been a france fan(12 years now) but i want this year holland to take it,althoiught i don't fancy their chanses,their defence is too shaky,but lovely team to watch
Lets start with group predictions based on latest preparation friendly games, here is my statement:
Group A
Czech - had a nice game and a win over Scotland (3-1) I guess they have the power to reach quarters, maybe even the semi-s
Portugal - haven't watched any of theirs game since qualifiers, but I guess they won't have problem in this group (although I wish they have). They play Georgia tomorrow.
Swiss - won over Lichtenstein (3-0) and although they are hosts, they will probably end in group stage, and probably as last.
Turkey - the most unpredictable team, they can win any in the group, as well as lose. I hope they win Portugal and kick them out.
Group B
Germany - Although 2-2 draw with Belarus, I think they will achieve 9 points here, and I hope they win over Serbia tomorrow 3-0 or higher so that idiot managing our team (djukic) leaves, he was a good player, but imho he sucks as a manager.
Croatia - they will be 2nd or 3rd, I personally hope 3rd (not because I hate them) because of some people who behave like they already won
Poland - they have a nice chance to go to quarters, and I hope they do
Austria - they will probably be last, although they are hosts, but they might surprise as well, although their defense sucks balls
Group C
France - I hoped to see more from them through friendlies, but they managed to get the job done
Italy - Powerful indeed, and are never but NEVER to be underestimated, I think they have most chances here
Netherlands - they have chance, but they have to improve, and fast, I watched the game against Denmark, and they didn't do well.
Romania - definitely 0 points, I just hope you guys don't suffer the same faith as Serbians at world cup, lol
Group D
Spain - definitely first here probably with 9 points as well. They are hungry for some major triumph
Greece - they were surprise 4 years ago, they won't surprise again. Maximum they reach is quarter finals, if they reach quarter finals
Russia - Russians improved much, I watched game against Serbia, they might get through. I hope they reach quarters at least
Sweden - They were powerful once, but regarding the game against Slovenia (although I had impression they screwed a bit) they are not even 30% as once before. They might get through as 2nd as well, but I hope not

England's untalented goal keepers isn't luck.By the way i watched couple of youtube movies with england authors and they flame england very hard with for their passes,shots (gameplay), so I guess england started to sux big time.

I know you mean England, and although I like their team, they are far from best team in the world, especially after being 3rd in group qualifiers.
I find them missing aspiration at major tours, their players are too much obsessed with their clubs, as most of them play in the FA premier which is imho strongest in the world atm. I don't think they give 100% to the national team
and it is not only the goalkeepers they need, but also strikers, having 2 strikers in whole national team is just LOL (I don't find Crouch a striker, but idiot, and Walcott is too young for such tasks in national team)
I can see major changes will occur there, I hope to see England powerful again

Pfff, you have no idea about Romania actually.
Ask yourselves if we won Netherlands in the Qualification Groups and so we were first.
You'll have a big surprise on Romania's football team.
However from the posts i saw till now, most of you who underestimated and overestimated some of the countries from the euro, seems you have no idea what you're talking about and you're just adding a post.
PS: even though i voted for Romania(just cause it's my country), France has the most chances to win it.

that game vs Hungaria was a bleeding embaressment, he won 1 out last 4 friendly matches, we can't even beat bloody Hungaria and they aren't even on the Euro, we barely defeated Moldavia, not to mention that calamity vs Netherlands... i hope this is not the way we play on Sunday...

austria and swizerland are playing at home, they will have a really heavy support, they can surprise everyone.
Also, shall I remember you swizerland won their group at wc2006 ahead of france? they just lost on penalties to ukraine on the 1/8s. Many people seem to under-rate switzerland, dunno why...
and what about turkey? they were 3rd in 2002... they play some nice football and they're a great team.

maybe because they never managed to accomplish any major goal, or never even reach far (correct me if I am wrong), and their league suck as well compared to Spanish, English, Italian, German, French, Portugal... their teams also achieved nothing.

I wouldn't vote for Serbia even if we play, although I would've supported ofcourse, I know what my national team is able to accomplish and winning EC is not an option. Same goes for Croatians (my opinion)

well this first stage is always filled with emotions, you can't expect people to be rational until they see how their team stands vs others. so i see no harm in some nationality based predictions, it's not like this is professional sports forum, or some betting arena, it's just bunch of ppl cheering for their national squads.
