Purpose of playing dota in ss channel nowadays

Hello all .Some of you won't see the point of this thread but after years of playing DoTa and coming back here to check how's it going , I sincerely got disgusted of the way many players ,who are supossed to be in such a safelisted channel as SS which had it's "golden age " more than a year ago for many,play dota.Maybe it has been just a couple of games , but in both 70% of the players got no game-style and do not show any effort at being creative , original , showing up a wicked teamplaying; instead of that they confortably get stuck on that very boring " the more you farm , the more you own " as some numb pub-player.Farming actually got no merit since it just depends on the time you dedicate to play , hardware ( yes lol ) , reflex and so... , even though it's a must in a "pro" game , you can't focus everything on it , otherwise you go into a passive gaming style where players who spent 999999 hours creeping in their life own .... so in this case it's not a skill made of effort and all i stated before but the time u spend+hardware and all that kind of things which not always depend on "your intelligence" .Now some of you will bring philosophical topics like intelligence has nothing to do or not , the only thing im pretending with this is to make you think more about the way you play .... nothing else.

Well dest , i have to agree with you. Altought its hard to compare old ss and this one , that doesnt mean that we shouldn't tend to make this place better with ever day and try to get close to that level of gaming as much as it's possible. Most of the players , who play in ss now , felt private , more serious games for the first time . They had to cross the line from pub to private , what is very big step for most . In all that improving and learning i think that one big part of dota is lost , or just a bit forgoten. Most of new players try to show themselves , to get good score , show good farming etc. That is normal , but game is starting to be too monotone . There are too many farming games , solo players , guys who want to carry the game for every cost , wait to get full inventory of expensive items to push etc .
There is need to put dynamic in dota , and take all fun it offers. That means more team play , more gangs , pushes , counter pushes . You have to "feel" the game , to get sense what and when u have to do .
Its wrong to give all attention to get great cs , or evade dieing. If u watch replays of good clans, or clan wars u will understand what im talking about . Remember that dota is TEAM GAME , 5 players have to work together , cooperate , make tactic and outplay other 5 who are trying to do the same.
Imo that is the right way to play . So im asking you to take more effort to understand the game , to focus more on team and tactics , to gang , make combos , LISTEN more experienced players who advice you . I can assure that u will learn more , and see one new aspect of dota , which is not monotone and boring as farm , farm ,farm , more farm , push and gg.... Thanks for reading :tiphat:

Good point Desty. I think its easier to make then u think. I have 2 suggestions right now.
First is that every game b4 is started, need to have 2 captains (1 for sent and 1 for scourage) and they decide what hero rest of the team will take. This can eliminate situation which i hate most - 3 agi in one team. Ppl wake up there is not enough farm to feed 3 agi herous :) Captain will also mark who buy wards ect. I know, there can be bit long discussion about it, but that will improve dynamics in game and that is what we are looking for right?
Second thing is ventrilo/teamspeak server as something all ss players HAVE TO USE. I know that some ppl dont need that to be very good teammates but 90% does. That might be problem for some of us but...
I'm open for criticism, so dont hesitate :)

Good job tAy , you just helped us to make the point . That game was like a pub one , obviously your opponents dont know much about real dota . They farmed waited to get good items etc , instead of ganging u , pushing and finishing game in 30 min. If they had just little team play , and sense for tactic you wouldn't be able to do anything. That is the purpose of this thread , to make people try to understand the game more , not just play like robots who know that they must farm , know what items they have to get till push , and play for themselves . That is the reason why dota is 5v5 not 1v1.

The thing is, there is a big gap between the skills of ss players. Some of them are just above average, while others are quite good. It's very hard to play a ss game with a new team against someone who plays together very often. I agree that teamwork is what matters most in DotA, but how can there be teamwork, when you don't trust your team/ one of your teammates is a selfish snob?
People pick 3 carry heroes. Why? 1. They might be selfish. 2. They don't trust their teammates to be damage dealers. 3. They lack skill to play support heroes.
I'm happy that it is harder to get into ss now as people need to post a replay with a support/ranged hero in order to get accepted most of the time. But still, people need to be punished for laming in ss games. We lost a game against 5 int heroes today, because one of us had terrible lags ( or at least he started complaining of them when his score was 0-5) I think people should get -rep for laming in a game even if it was caused by lag (why not ask for a rmk if u lag?)

How to become better teamplayers - watch some reps , read maybe some guides , and most important THINK . Think what do u need in every moment of the game that can help the team , arcane , mek , guinsoo for the enemy carry etc. And understand even if u have 300+ creeps and 40 - 0 score , and ur tree/throne is dead is not you who won the game.

Well, Desty, what u said is all true. This game is being taken so serious.. To much people avoid teambattles or ganks not to get killed or owned.. If u have the skill use it.. Not to farm and farm and farm.. That everyone can do if he wants.
Tay, u can be the best farmer IN SS..it is IN SS cause i've seen replays (like, i guess, some of u have too) of teams that, well, are pros, i mean really professional, that farm way better than any of us, no ofense.. but u can't win a game vs a skilled team who does not spend his time farming and does it ganking, pushing..
After all, dota is 5v5 and all 5 should "participate" on game, with few exceptions..this is what i think.

Ok, Desty slaped me because i didnt made my point in this thread, so here i go.
The MAIN problem with ss players is that 90% of them are AFRAID of dying, and that's a huge problem when those players are tanks or initiators(magnus, es, levi, etc).I played a game a few days with levi + enigma + qop + sand, against only 1-2 stunners and we lost, why? because levi never used ulti when needed, enigma did it when we all had below 50% life, etc ,etc.
I`m a player who likes more to gang start a battle then farm, but most of the times my teammates doesnt help me with my job. Played some games with es, i always died first(had a score like 5-15 or something like that), but i didnt care because after my blink + ulti , enchant, stun combo, i was dead, but i was sure that at least 3 or 4 enemy players are also dead). So my only death for 4 enemy kills was worth it ? HELL YES.
IF we manage somehow to remove that fear of death from this players, i think we'll manage to have some nice games.

While it's true that people with apm less than ~90 suck most of the time, average apm among the top dota players (like MyM|Maelk/Slahser, Vigoss, Ars-Art, Admiration, etc...) never surpasses 140. Only once thus far, I saw MyM|Slahser have 185 apm, but I believe he was probably smoking something before that game.
Point is, apm is never a true meter of your quality. What I think is, that assists are maybe the best thing to show who's really helping the team. Not the best ever, but best thus far.

People can't accept the fact that some heroes JUST CANNOT HELP TEAM IN ANY F****** WAY. The best example out there: hell yeah, Sniper.
Sniper almost by definition require solo lane, because he's gonna out-last-hit any hero that lanes with him, due to superior attack animation.
Not to mention awesome 50 hp frags with his ulti.
And the other example is, while Riki is fine hero, you'll usually see bastards playing him running around with Smokescreen, which just makes me slap somebody.

haha u guys are SO right. i dun play in ss (yet, im tryna get in) but i play with friends a lot. the teams we play against are decent, but i neva see anyone jump into our faces with OMFG IM GONNA RAPE U ALL WITH MY TEAM'S ULTI before. once i played against a team with sk and bm, 3 of our heroes were pushing with 3/4 hp. only those 2 were alive and i watch the replay and saw that those 2 could have killed us 3 pretty easily with their ultis. wat was supposed to happen was bm ulti us all and sk blink in after. wat did happen was that sking let bmaster die by not jumping in after him.

maybe they didnt talk it out well, or maybe they were just scared, but someone has to promote suicidal-ness in order more better games in ss ( i wastch my friend play ss)

If u think apm 300+ help u to kill whole team, survive every situation or kill every creep u have on sight u are dumb. Usually i have apm 100-130 and i think its enough. Clicking around battlefield like maniac, select my hero again and again 10times per second realy dont help. If u think this go back to W3-classic

Although I am not on ss (I just wasn't interested in joining till now) I agree. I have taken a look on "what do u need for ss" and really dislike it. Because sometimes u can have bad items and no money you can play very well and win game on team work. I saw new rules and they are much better than old, but the problem is that it would take too much time to admins and moderators and there will be too many ppl who would like to play test game.
