I cant no longer connecto to that server..
this is what happends "unable to connect to server, please download the newst patch" ? .. eh..

is just me that cant play on the server now or what?

I have exactly the same problem, with the small difference that I do have the game updated - I'm certain of that. I've been updating every step since 1.12, not sure when xspam stopped working, but i can use Karamba for instance without problems.
Any hint-hints?

download 1.16 patch from battle.net site and after download this http://w3.xpam.de/files/w3battle.exe .... after copy the patch into u`re w3 directory and install w3batte.exe ! good luck

Taht's procedure, as I said procedure did not work the first, second, third , fourth or sixth time. Yes i did it that many times, upgrading with different .exe's from different versions every time
I just managed to do a full reinstall , including cleaning the registry and its the only thing that helped.
It actually works now... sadly i still have no idea wtf happened there. maybe some mispatch

Can someone say what the files used for authentication are?

i think the problem was that the patch had an error at installing and some files were upgraded but some of them not.
and because of the non-upgraded files u received that msg
and if u tryed to reinstall patch u received the msg that u have the patch allready installed and no need for reinstall (this because of the files upgradated)

is that clear?

You're close there, with the minor correction that the patch system only verbosely says it won't install itself if war3.exe is already patched. So I changed war3.exe with an older unpatched version and patched again.
The patch said OK!

Are you using shortcuts created by installer? I think not and that is the problem. These shortcuts lead to w3l.exe - the required loader. You can try to use w3l.exe directly too.
