View Full Version : Language in odl games

I think it might be reasonable to make some rules about language used in odl games. My experience is that 2 or 3 players start chatting in a weird language and they keep it doing whole game. Result is that I can't understand 95% of ingame communication so I stop reading those messages. When someone writes something important in english, I don't even notice.

nope :) it shouldnt
i hate it when some turks start talking and talking and talking just because they are 4 in team and only me "outsider" , or romanians , or any other language i dont understand but i deal with it and just dont care , but if they say something in english i read it because i keep an eye on chat unlike you :)

I think that game experience of most players would be improved if only english was allowed. This is open league and players are shuffled, there are (or should be) other leagues for fixed teams. Why not to use internation language?

So rules say "in channel only must speak English, other languages will lead to punishment" but nobody respects them. But all speak the language they want, and nobodyof the moderators will not do anything. because they are not interested

Yes there is a rule, but with the moderators u are wrong ! The moderators are humans too not machines...
There can't be a moderator 24/7 to check everything , who's talking english , who's not, who's flaming ... so think first before you write something :)

You can always report non-english in channel. But in games player can talk language whatever he likes as long as mods don't change the rules!

Thats why I made this thread - to discuss about changing the rules if admins consider it reasonable.

well, I was doing it for a few days - i.e. checking the chatlogs from entire day and banning all that spammed non-english
but it resulted into too much crying and drama. Might start to do it soon, since it was so much fun :D

On topic, I cannot really make up my mind if I would want this or not.

There is an unwritten rule that all members on Eubnet know.

-Ingame, if I'm not talking to you, then it's not really important what I say.

Imagine you are Shadowfiend playing middle lane. I am Barathrum on down lane, and there is Vengeful spirit with me. So if I say;

Ajde kreni stun trola

or

Go, lets stun troll

In what way do this sentences affect your gameplay mid?

You wont even read them. Even if you do, it will not affect your gameplay.

I personally do not think I (or anybody else) should talk English to those who understand my native language ingame. (unless its a serious league game, and by league I mean high skilled league, those who are streamed online etc)

Ofc If I want to involve the formentioned shadow fiend in a gank down I will ofc say:

Never, come down for a gank!

I think those issues are well known among players.

As for official rules, time will show wether English only in ODL games will be included.

For the time being it stays as it is now.

I just played a game where I was top with one Turk and he was talking all the time another Turk on mid. And later gangs in 5 - only Turkish. Only when I died they switched to English so I can understand their insults. What a teamplay! Thats for your unwritten rules ;)

ok, let's put the problem in this way :
I got some RO friends for example ( Puiul ) , and they don't know english very well only a few words : "hi" , "go" , "stun", "push".
What you gonna do ? You don't let them play ?
You can't do this , 'cause is an Open League !

They can't even read ODL rules since they don't speak english.

Yes :) & and they even don't enter the forum to see only on ODL ladder ( http://ss.eurobattle.net/odl ) to see their rank.

that's a little bit hard to do a bot, like he must be programmed to know ALL english words and what about abreviations, like "w8" or "omg" or even like "lol", u know...

weirdos :)

best explanation given by goldy , its a simple fact really ...
so stop with this nonsence , i dont care who talks how or what as long as they play good and are in my team :D
but if a rule like this IS brought , then there will be less ppl in odl i guess ( with all the banning and no english knowing , etc etc )
